This kit contains several necessary parts to guarantee a safe, long-lasting, and code-compliant chimney connection for your 8" DuraPlus system in a multistory building. Essential elements included in this all-inclusive kit include:
1. 8" DuraPlus Chimney Cap: The chimney cap serves as a defense barrier, keeping debris, weather, and other outside elements out of the chimney while allowing for adequate ventilation.
2. 8" DuraPlus Storm Collar: The storm collar fortifies the chimney's barrier against inclement weather by adding another degree of protection and creating an airtight seal around it.
3. 8" DuraPlus Attic Insulation Shield: This shield prevents heat from entering the attic and reaching combustible materials. It is made explicitly for multistory installations. It guarantees both safety and adherence to insulation specifications.
4. 8" DuraPlus Firestop Radiation Shield: Protecting adjacent flammable materials from excessive heat transfer and following safety regulations are two critical functions of the firestop radiation shield.
5. 8" DuraPlus Flashing: By acting as a barrier against weathering, the flashing keeps water from penetrating the area surrounding the chimney, enhancing overall waterproofing and maintaining the structural integrity of the chimney system.
6. 8" DuraPlus Wall Strap: The wall strap guarantees a safe connection and adherence to safety regulations by giving the chimney extra support and stability as it travels through vertical walls.
7. 8" DuraPlus Ceiling Support Box: The ceiling support box, designed explicitly for multistory installations, helps the chimney system pass through ceilings while providing structural stability and support.
The DuraVent 8" DuraPlus Multistorey Kit offers a thorough and safe solution when installing a chimney in a multistory building. Installation Guide for Optimal Performance
- Place the Appliance: Set up your appliance following the manufacturer’s guidelines, ensuring the flue outlet aligns between the rafters or joists above. This precise positioning maximizes the efficiency and safety of your chimney system.
- Frame the Support Opening: Using a plumb bob, mark the flue outlet’s center on the ceiling and cut the appropriate hole. This crucial step lays the foundation for secure and stable installation.
- Install the Support Box: For added stability, the support box must extend 2 inches below the ceiling. Secure it with nails and trim frames, reinforcing the structure. Our optional brass trim kits add an elegant touch, complementing your interior.
- Frame Openings in Additional Floors: Properly frame openings in each ceiling or floor above the Support Box for Firestop Radiation Shields and Attic Insulation Shields. This is vital to maintain the chimney’s structural integrity and compliance with safety standards.
- Cut the Roof Opening: Make an opening 4 inches larger than the chimney’s outside diameter, ensuring at least a 2-inch clearance all around. Our Close Clearance Shields are available for installations between closely spaced rafters, minimizing structural adjustments while maintaining safety.
- Install the Firestop Radiation Shield: Essential for multi-story homes, these shields protect your home as the chimney passes through each floor and ceiling. Our design offers configurations for different home layouts, ensuring each floor is adequately safeguarded.
- Assemble Chimney Sections: Align the chimney sections carefully, using the twist-lock mechanism for a secure connection. Sheet metal screws are optional but can provide added reinforcement for peace of mind.
- Install the Attic Insulation Shield: This component protects your attic by preventing insulation from contacting the chimney. Where attic space is limited, the Square Support Box can serve as an alternative, ensuring your chimney system meets safety requirements.
- Attach Flashing: For a weatherproof seal, attach the Flashing above the roof and secure it properly. Our ventilated and non-ventilated Flashing options adapt to various roofing types, ensuring the chimney remains stable and leak-free.
- Finish the Top: Apply waterproof sealant and slide the Storm Collar into place for a secure finish. The Chimney Cap snaps on easily, providing the finishing touch while allowing for convenient chimney cleaning and maintenance.
- Enclosures for Safety and Aesthetics: When the chimney passes through occupied spaces, enclose it using standard framing and maintain at least a 2-inch clearance from combustibles. This ensures both safety and a clean, professional appearance throughout your home.
Our DuraPlus Multistory Chimney Pipe Kit provides everything you need for a safe, efficient, and aesthetically pleasing chimney installation. By choosing our kit, you’re investing in quality, reliability, and peace of mind, knowing your home is protected and your chimney is built to perform.
